Nursing & Home Care honors several Wilton residents

The volunteers of Nursing & Home Care and its partner, Mid-Fairfield Hospice, were honored recently at an awards ceremony and luncheon at the Roger Sherman Inn. Nine volunteers received special recognition for their commitment, compassion and dedication to service.  

Betty Johnson of Wilton received an award for her office volunteer work at Nursing & Home Care and Peg Stafford of Wilton received an award for her volunteer work at the Turnover Shop of Wilton; Marti Bishop of Norwalk received the Hospice Volunteer Award; Neil Remlin of Westport received the Peer Counselor-Senior Companion Award; Lynn Singalese of New Canaan received an award for her volunteer work at the New Canaan Thrift Shop; JoEllen Oskin of New Canaan received an award for her volunteer work on the agency’s Development Committee; Don Hunziker of New Canaan received an award for his volunteer work as a member of the agency’s board of directors; and Dr. Charles Crown of New Canaan received special recognition for his volunteer work as a member of the agency’s Medical Professional Advisory Committee.

Weston resident Marilyn Kirchner received the agency’s highest honor — The Carol B. Bauer Community Spirit Award — for outstanding service as a hospice patient care volunteer.

“This award was established in honor of Carol Bauer, whose spirit of support and devotion to volunteerism is unmatched in the community,” said Meredith DeRosa, agency manager of volunteer and community programs. “The Carol B. Bauer Award is presented each year to that special individual who embodies the ideals and spirit of volunteerism. It is given to acknowledge selfless devotion, compassion and caring.”

Nursing & Home Care is a United Way agency and a partner with Mid-Fairfield Hospice. Together they provide professional nursing and support services, rehabilitation, counseling, health education, community wellness programs and compassionate hospice care for individuals and families in Wilton and throughout Fairfield County.
